ENERGY FUELS COAL, INC.
SOUTHFIELD MINE
ANNUAL REPORT OF INFLOWS, DISCHARGES AND
CONSUMPTION OF {tiTATER WITHIN THE MINE
1989 AHR
(July, 1989 through June, 1990)
J
MINE INFLOWS
Inflows to the Southfield Mine have beer. estimated from
pump discharge records of the North Entry well and the 8-crosscut
sump pump. For the period of this report, approximately
17,164,000 gallons (53.2 AC-FT) flowed into the mine (refer to
Table 1). Water pumped from the mine enters the surface water
treatment system shown on Figure 2.
No significant mine inflows occured as a result of mining
during the reporting period. The majority of inflow continues to
occur in the 1st North sump area from fractures connected with
adjacent old mine workings. As required, field quality and
quantity data were collected at accessible locations in the mine.
Inflow and seep locations are indicated on Plate 1 (mine map),
and field data summarized on Table 2.
Comparison of the data presented here with those data
presented in previous reports, indicates that only minor changes
in mine water inflow quality and quantity have occured. The data
collected indicate that there have been no detrimental impacts to
water quality or quantity resulting from mine water inflows
during the past year.
MINE WATER DISCHARGES
Mine water discharges to streams totalled approximately
7,693,000 gallons (23.6 RC-FT) for the reporting period (refer to
Table 3). All discharge events are measured and sampled by
methods approved in EFCI's Colorado Wastewater Discharge Permit.
Discharge water quality data are summarized on Table 4. For
the reporting period, one exceedence of permit total suspended
solids limitations was reported, but occured Eor only a minor
discharge event. All other discharges were well below discharge
permit limitations.
Discharge water quality for the reporting period indicates
• that Southfield's water treatment system is working effectively
and that discharges are not adversely impacting the stream
system.
