Long
Division Director
The Division has reviewed the 1996 Annual Subsidence Monitoring Report (Year-end Report)
submitted to us on May 19, 1997. As stated in the attached Memorandum from Dr. Jim
Pendleton, this report contains a straight forward rendition of the survey data for Mountain Coal
Company's numerous subsidence monitoring points. With the exception of the visual monitoring
discussion contained in the report, the brief cover letter discussion and detailed data report are
acceptable in regards to monitoring observations. However, please indicate the location of
cracking and "scars" on the subsidence map. Also, please provide indications of crack extent,
date of first observance, and notes concerning subsequent "healing". Please submit revised report
maps and text as appropriate.
If you have any questions please contact me of Dr. Jim Pendleton.
Sincerely,
Michael P.
