Henderson Mine SPCC/MCP May 1999
• 10.0 UPDATING THE SPCC !MCP
It is a requirement of the CPDES water dischazge permit that Henderson Mine annually
review and update this plan. The Materials Containment and Spill Prevention Plan will
be updated by the Environmental Department at ]east annually or more frequently when
necessary to reflect changes in system design, standazd operating procedures, or use of
materials. Mine personnel should keep the Environmental Affairs Manager apprised of
changes as they occur so this plan contains current and accurate information at all times.
11.0 ONGOING PROJECTS AND SCHEDULE FOR IMPLEMENTATIOiV
During prepazation of this plan, several of the containments (see for example the Fuel
Island on the west side of No. 1 Pond) were noted to require routine maintcnance-
cleaning to remove debris, etc. All containment azeas should be inspected ancf cleaned
prior to the next annual update (May 2000).
Small cracks were noted within concrete containment structures at the used oil storage
facility. These cracks should be inspected periodically and monitored to make sure that
spills aze adequately being contained in the structure. Should the containment be
compromised by leakage through the cracks, Henderson management must be prc:pazed to
• use an epoxy sealer (or equivalent) to retazd leakage. The cracks will be re-inspected
prior to the annual update scheduled for May 2000.
Some room for improvement in general housekeeping was noted for the Llsed Oil
Building. This is more of a safety issue for workers as the floor was slightly slippery;
however, abuild-up of oily materials can get out-of--hand if not attended to on ~i regulaz
basis. The Used Oil Building will be inspected for housekeeping improvements during
the next annual update in May 2000.

za
