The volume of containment is 5,000 gallons and
consists of a concrete curbed storage azea. Stored in two 30 gallon capacity Safety Kleen tubs, it is common
practice to keep only about 20 gallons or less in the tank. Safety Kleen services (pumps
out used solvent and replenishes with new solvent) these tubs periodically. In the
unlikely event of a spill of solvent, the liquid can be contained with floor dry, scooped up
with a shovel and broom, and stored in a drum for proper disposal.
6.27 Dust Bind (Vinyl Acetate Copolymer~at Henderson Mine
Approximately 110 gallons (two 55 gallon drums) of vinyl acetate copolymer (trade name
• Dust Bind) aze stored in the No. 1 Shaft Hoist House containment azea. The volume of
containment is 5,000 gallons and consists of a concrete curbed storage azea. Arty spilled
material can be mixed with floor dry or sand, scooped up with a shovel and broom, and
stored in a drum for proper disposal.
6.28 Untreated Mine Water-Henderson Mine and Urad Minesite
Untreated mine water contains elevated concentrations of metals and could cause
environmental impacts to neazby streams if a sufficiently lazge volume of water is
released. The ponds at both the Henderson Mine and Urad Water Treatment Plant
typically have ample storage capacity so that if one pond is neaz capacity, th.e excess
water can be routed to other ponds. If all the ponds aze full, then in-situ treaunent and
testing of the water should be performed prior to dischazge. In the event of a pipe rupture
or leak, the check valve for the pipe should be closed immediately and the mine water
routed to the backup line or the Henderson settling ponds. If possible, spillage of
untreated water should be contained in an excavated sump and pumped to the nearest
treatment pond.
•
21
