• Savage and Savage
Memorandum
To: Donald W. MacDonald, Coors Energy Company
From: Michael Savage, Savage and Savage, Inc.
Date: May 12, 2003
Subject: Second Quarter 2003 Pest and Disease Inspection; Keenesburg Mine
File #: C-81-028
On May 1, 2003 I conducted an inspection of the reclanned and revegetated areas at the
Keenesburg Mine for evidence of plant pests or diseases that could affect the re-
established vegetation at the Keenesburg Mine.
All reclaimed and revegetated areas of the min, including the 1985, 1986, 1987, 1995,
1998 interseedings, 1999, 2000, and 2002 seediags were inspected by pedestrian and
vehicle means. The dugout area, the small cottonwood grove, and the B Pit areas were
also inspected for any poternial weedy invasive species. I did not identify any disease
conditions at any of the reclaimed and revegetated areas or within the mine site. Nor did I
identify any plant pests which had affected the growth of the vegetation during the past
growing season. No areas which experienced any infestation or blight were found during
the inspection.
The mine site has received significantly more precipitation during the winter and early
spring than during the same period last year. As a result, early growth of cool season
perennial grasses was observed throughout the mine site. Danny Kipp and I identified
several small areas (within Areas 6, 7, and 10) where light burns could be employed to
m;nim;~~ cheatgrass regeneration later this spring, given suitable bum conditions.
In the spirit of extending Executive Order D 002 03 (Eradication of Tamarisk on State
Lands) to the private lands at the mine, Danny will remove the few tamarisk shrubs on the
mine site this spring through mechanical means.
C: Keenesburg Pest and Disease Inspection File
Damry Kipp, Keenesburg Mine

AHR-2003 -46-
