i Savage and Savage
Memorandum
To: Donald W. MacDonald, Coors Energy Compaq
From: Michael Savage, Savage and Savage, Inc.
Date: January 9, 2003
Subject: First Quarter 2003 Pest and Disease Inspection; Keenesburg Mine
File #: C-81-028
On January 9, 2003 I conducted an inspection of the reclaimed and revegetated areas at
the Keenesburg Mine for evidence of plant pests or diseases that could affect the re-
established vegetation at the Keenesburg Mine.
All reclaimed and revegetated areas of the mine, including the 1985, 1986, 1987, 1995,
1998 interseedings, 1999, 2000, and 2002 seedings were inspected by pedestrian and
vehicle means. The dugout area, the small cottonwood grove, and the B Pit areas were
also inspected for a~ potential weedy invasive species. I did not identify a~ disease
wnditions at a~ of the reclaimed and revegetated areas or within the mine site. Nor did I
identify a~ plant pests which had affected the growth of the vegetation during the past
growing season. No areas which experienced a~ infestation or blight were found during
the inspection.
The surface of the soil at the mine site in the reclaimed and revegetated areas was dry. No
surface erosion was observed within any of the reclamation areas. Even with the drought
conditions, there is sufficient vegetative ground cover and litter to control wind erosion in
the revegetated areas. In the newly reclaimed areas where the AI amendments have been
added, they have also contnbuted to mininrizing wind erosion
C: Keenesburg Pest and Disease Inspection File
Danny Kipp, Keenesburg Mine

AHR-2003 -45-
