• The highwall slopes are composed of sedimentary rocY.s and coal of
the Menefee Formation, P;esa Verde Group and are of Upper Cretaceous age,
The tipple highwall (from base to top) along section A-A' is composed
of:
5.0' dark gray shale
1.0' coal
19:0' buff to gray sandstone and shale partings
3.0' buff sandstone
5.0' coal
7.0' light brown sandstone
Bedding along the tipple highxall varies in strike from SSOoE to S55oE and
dips from 4o to So SW.
The south highwall (from base to top) along section B-H' is composed
• of
10.0' bench
7.5' coal
5.0' buff to gray sandstone and shale partings
1.0' gray shale
1.5' buff to gray sandstone
14.0' gray shale with interbedded sandstone
1.0' light brawn sandstone
Bedding along the south highxall strikes N65oE and dips ~° SE.
Detailed geologic mapping revealed no structural instability of the
highwalls. Particular attention was paid to evidence of joint patterns and
and faulting. No faults were noted nor xere patterns of jointing or frame
tures.
•
(2)
