Pennittee: WHITEWATER BUILDING MATERIALS CORP, PAGE 2
Permit #: M-77.129
Operation Name: WHITEWATER 500 PIT
Anniversary Date: 09/22/06
(2) Sloping was complete on 1,855 feet around perimeter of
Phase 2 - PART A (green) and 740 feet of slope in the north-
east part of Stage 2 - PART B. The blue cross hatched areas
show where we have material stored to create slopes in
Stages 2 - PARTS A & B. Only the final grading is necessary
on these areas. Overburden stockpiles have been placed
along the tops of these slopes for resoiling when they are
complete.
Reclamation is complete in the 20.0 acre area in Stage 4 -
PART B where borrow material was removed. The area was
seeded during the spring of 2005. We continue to monitor
the area and if needed, additional seeding will be done.
This area will eventually be mined.
There is approximately 20,000 cy of overburden stored in
Phase 2 - PARTS A, & B & Phase D that will be used on the
alpha stages and in Phase 2 - PART A as needed (orange).
These piles are in a constant state of flux with material
being added and removed as areas are stripped and resoiled.
The settling pond is still being used to clean process water
(gray). The stockpiles on the lake bottom in Phase 2 - PART
A will be removed or leveled as needed. The access corridor
is being utilized to cross the highway when material from
the mined area is moved to the plant (heavy blue line).
Phases X, Y, & 1 were prepared and seeded per the approved
plan in the fall of 2004. We continue to monitor the work
done to date and some remedial work may be needed in the
future. Please refer to the 1999 annual report map for
location of these areas.
Weed control continued this year on the area around the
active mine and on the area around Phase 1. We sprayed
Knapweed and White Top on October 6 & 7, 2005 and on May 24
and June 14, 16, 19 & 20, 2006 with water soluble 2-4-D and
Curtail'". Spraying is finally beginning to have positive
results against the Knapweed and White Top. This is still
an uphill battle since there is little or no control taking
place on properties surrounding the mine and seed is being
wind blown in from offsite areas that we have no control
over. Spraying will continue as needed. The U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service will not let us spray within 10 feet of the
lake in Phase 1.
(3) Mining will continue on Stage 2 - PART B this year working
to the south and on the floor of Stage 2 - PART A until all
material is removed from the Stage. In Stage F the mine
face will continue to move to the east. If more area is
needed, we will resume stripping ahead of the mining face.
