• This annual hydrologic report is the first report submitted for
the Mt. Gunnison No. 1 Mine and covers the period from permit
approval (July, 1981) through Water Year 1982. The report
provides a summary and interpretation of hydrologic monitoring
data at the Mt. Gunnison No. 1 Mine through Water Year 1982 and
an assessment of hydrologic impacts. Detailed listings of
monitoring data for the year are contained in the quarterly
reports.
•
•
During the Water Year 1982, WECC completed the major construction
of its Mt. Gunnison No. 1 Mine at a location approximately seven
miles east - northeast of Paonia, Colorado. The mine entrance
and surface facilities are located adjacent to the North Fork
Gunnison River (North Fork).
Construction of the mine was initiated in August, 1981, two
months prior to the begirtrting of Water Year 1982. This period
marks the end of the baseline monitoring period and the beginning
of the operational monitoring period for the North Fork basin.
Baseline monitoring continues in the Minnesota Creek basin.
This report is divided into three sections. The first section
describes monitoring activities through Water Year 1982. The
second section interprets the hydrologic data collected during
the year and relates this information to mining and reclamation
activities at Mt. Gunnison to assess the impacts, if any, on the
hydrologic balance. This section also addresses hydrologic
-3-
