• The USGS maintains a stream gaging station on the
North Fork above Somerset at the location shown on
Exhibit 1. Daily flow measurements for the North
Fork during Water Year 1982 are provided in Appendix
A. The USGS also maintains a stream gaging station
on the Smith Fork River near Crawford. Although this
gage is outside the general area for the Mt. Gunnison
No. 1 Mine, it may be useful for correlation and
statistical analysis with streamflows in the
Mt. Gunnison mine plan area and adjacent areas.
The Horse Creek, South Prong, Lick Creek, Sylvester
Gulch and Lower Dry Fork gaging stations are located
• to provide a long term record of stream flow and
water yield from watersheds within the life-of-mine
area that have a potential to be affected by min-
ing. The Upper Dry Fork gage provides a record of
stream flows and water yields from Deep Creek Ditch
and the upper, unaffected portion of the Dry Fork
basin. The Minnesota Creek above Dry Fork gage pro-
vides additional information on water yields from
unmined portions of the Minnesota Creek basin as well
as from Lick, Horse and South Prong drainages. The
USGS gage on the North Fork provides information on
stream flows that aids in the interpretation of water
quality data and the assessment of probable hydro-
. logic consequences.
-11-
