LOng
Drvrsion Dimaor
Re: 1993 Annual Hydrology Report Review for Energy Fuels Coal, Inc.
Southfield Mine (C-81-014)
Dear Mr. Weaver:
The Division has completed its review of the 1993 Annual Hydrology
Report and have found that all permit commitments have been met
with the exception of the few issues listed below.
Issues:
1. For the items below, please see Table 8.
Well TD levels in MW-8, MW-10 and MW-65 may be incorrect.
a. MW-8 should be 960' but was mined through: now recording
1038';
b. MW-10 should be 402'TD but is recording 460'. Mined
through?
c. MW-65 shows loss of 8'. Should be 1448, but reading 1440'.
Please provide an explanation of the three TD levels.
2. Mine inflow doubled from last year (34.6' to 62.4') as did
total water quantity discharge (3.9 ACFT to 24.6 ACFT). Is
this entirely due to excessive precipitation events during the
month of August as is implied in the report, or are there
additional causes for the increase, such as new areas being
mined and dewatered? Please clarify.
Comments:
Groundwater
1. Monitoring of TD was done annually per permit requirements.
2. Water levels taken quarterly per permit frequency
requirements.
3. Water quality taken semi-annually and quality has remained
constant in all wells with no significant deterioration over
time. Wells checked: MW-10, MW-16, MW-23, MW-65; for all
parameters. Water type is a sodium bicarbonate or sodium
