Portions of the precipitation
record for that quarter were also missing. Data for the remaining three
quarters of the 1986-87 monitoring year were essentially complete.
Surface Water
Analyses of water sampled from flows in the permanent diversion and from
discharges from the sediment pond closely resemble those from previous years.
Characteristically, the sediment pond discharges water significantly more
saline than that carried by the diversion. Water in the sediment pond is a
combination of both rv noff from the disturbed area of the mine and mine
pumpage. Some of the samples analyzed contained values of dissolved iron,
manganese and aluminum that exceed, drinking water and agricultural
standards. Such exceedances, however, have occurred in these waters in
previous years. Since these levels are present in water being carried by the
diversion ditch, as well as in that discharged from the sediment pond, they
appear to be naturally generated and not necessarily related to the presence
of the mine.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
