Sampling data are summarized in Table 13. Data on species density by lifeform are tabulated for
sampled areas in Table 14. Data on relative cover by lifeform are compiled in Table 15. Statistical
adequacy of sampling is reviewed in Table 16. The list of plant species observed during these
studies (reclaimed and reference areas) are included as Table 17 in Appendix 2. Seed mixes
used in the 1997 and 2002 reclamation areas are included for reference in Appendix 3.
Photographs of representative locations within the reclaimed areas sampled in 2006, as well as
photographs of Mountain Brush and Sagebrush/Snowberry Reference areas, are included in
Appendix 4. Graphs of vegetation and climate data are presented in Figures 1 through 10 of this
report.
In the cover descriptions below, species listed as "also present" were not "hit" during point-
intercept sampling but were present within one meter of either side of the 50 m sample transect
line. Unless otherwise stated, all cover values are for absolute vegetation including first hit data
only. Percentages are rounded to facilitate discussion of the results.
Bond Release Block 2 (BRB - 2)
(Photographs 1 through 20)
• COVER
(Table 1)
Introduced perennial cool season grasses were the predominant lifeform observed in Bond
Release Block 2, contributing 28 percent total first-hit vegetation cover. Of this, just under half (13
percent) was smooth brome (Bromopsis inermis) and a little over half (15 percent) was
intermediate wheatgrass (Thinopyrum intermedium). Introduced perennial (orbs contributed 13
percent first-hit vegetation cover. This total was predominantly composed of alfalfa (Medicago
saliva). Additionally, native shrubs contributed nearly 4 percent first-hit vegetation cover,
consisting primarily of big sagebrush (Seriphidium Mdentatum).
Total average vegetation cover for first hits was 49.7 percent. For herbaceous vegetation, total
average cover for first hits was 46.2 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock
averaged 6, 28, 17, and less than 1 percent, respectively. Average species density was 18.5
species per 100 sq. m.
14
