• projections of 4th West. Pictures 6 thru 8, again were panoramic shots taken over the projected 4th
West panel. Picture 9 was taken directly above the active mining in 4th West looking east toward
the beginning of the panel and 3 South Mains. Shots 10 and 13 over look azeas to be mined in the
next year or so. Shots 11,12 and 14 show azeas of 4th and 5th West panels and 3 South Mains that
have been mined in the last yeaz or so. The inspection tour dropped off the side of the canyon wall
down to the roadway in Main Canyon and proceeded up the road to the beginning. This road
basically follows Jeny Creek and crosses the fonnerly mined 1st West panel and the proposed 2nd
West panel. No subsidence evidence was found and there were no structures or features found that
require special protection other than Jerry Creek.
The RSS loop ,inspected on May 29, 1997, was over azeas to be mined in the distant future and
areas mined during the preceding yeaz or more. The summer help appazently did not recognize the
azea of interest for the survey because the pictures came back showing the tour to be starting neaz
the southeast comer of the permit azea. The fast 4 pictures were taken over areas to be mined in the
distant future but were included to show the general topography of the ridge between Cottonwood
and Rapid Creeks. Picture 1 over looks Cabin Reservoir which is immediately south of the permit
boundary. Power lines are also shown in the picture. Pictures 5-8 were taken on a ridge over the
east end of former mining in 6th East panel in 1996 and over look 6th and 7th East panels. Pictures
9 and 10 were taken over 6th East and show the rugged terrain neaz Rapid Creek. Picture 11 was
taken looking west over the middle of 6th and 7th East panels. The tour proceeded across the 6th
East panel and across the 4 South Mains to the roadway up Cottonwood Creek. The Palisade water
• line is the only significant structures in the area and Cottonwood Creek is the only significant
feature. No evidence of subsidence was found.
The second RSN loop, inspected on December 23, 1997, was primarily to cover areas previously
mined but also to over look azeas to be mined in 3rd and 2nd West. Pictures 1 and 2 were shots
taken over the former 1st west panel looking up and down the canyon. Pictures 3 and 4 were taken
overlooking 3rd and 4th West panels. The route skirted the sheaz canyon walls as close as
reasonably possible to the former 5th West panel. Major rock climbing would have been necessary
to get on top of Whittaker Flats to traverse the length of 5th West. Pictures 5 and 7 were taken to
show the shear canyon walls and picture 6 shows the slope down to Jerry creek and up the other side
of the canyon. Pictures 8 thru 11 were panoramic shots of Main canyon where mining has and will
be done. The tour proceed across the canyon and along the former 1st West panel to the point of
beginning. Jerry Creek is the only significant feature in the azea and no significant structures have
been found in the azea. No evidence of subsidence was found.
Subsidence monuments were installed in Coal Canyon and Main Canyon in the fall of 1996. These
5 points can be monitored from one point on the ridge between the two canyons. The location of
these points is shown of the Subsidence Survey Routes 1996 map. The following is a list of
coordinates and elevations for the monuments:
Name Northing Easting Elevation
• Base 1,021,131.82N 104,358.55E 5164.00
Page 3
