• 6.0 ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING AND PROTECTION
6.1 Hvdrologv Monitoring
6.1.1 Introduction
The hydrology monitoring plan is designed to determine impacts of WRN's mining operation.
Based on results of mining from 1991-2001 future operations/monitoring will be evaluated.
Figure 5-1 illustrates location of monitoring wElls completed in 1989-2001.
6.1.2 Scope
WRN's hydrology monitoring program concentrates on ground water, as there are no
• perennial streams or springs located on the sodium leases. The USGS stream gauging
station monitoring program is conducted, with WRN support, to provide regional water data.
6.1.3 Precipitation
Precipitation gauges are located near injection well 90-5 (tipping gauge) and near monitoring
welt EX-2 (V~auge). Based on perennial vegetation, which is an indicator of long-term
precipitation, the "normal" precipitation for the WRN site is 12-14 inches per year. The
distribution of precipitation is important for reclamation.

32
