.,

2.2 Project Location
The proposed gravel site is located near Fruita on privately owned land on the south bank and
adjacent to the Colorado River (Figures 1 and 2). Current land use is irrigated pasture for
livestock grazing operated by the Soaring Eagle Ranch. Site setting is rural and isolated from
surrounding residential dwellings. Gravel resources sought for development by GJ Pipe are in the
N'/:, Section 35; E''/x, NE'/., Section 34; T.1 N, R.2 W; Ute PM; Mesa County, Colorado. This
area is located on Mesa County Assessors Parcel Numbers 2697-344-00-299 and 2947-161-00-
061.
2.3 Project Activities
Mining and wetland mitigation is scheduled to be completed in a series of phases (Table 1) within
selected areas (Appendix B, MP- 1, W-1, and W-2). Site mining will proceed following
construction of haul road and associated mitigation required for crossing jurisdictional waterways.
Wetland mitigation phases will be concomitant with mining phases to avoid temporal loss of
wetland functions.
Wetland mitigation will proceed as overburden becomes available from mining areas. Mitigation
Phases A-G are coupled with Mining Phases I-VI as follows: I A, II B, IIUIV C&D, IIUV E&F,
and VI G. Mining will continue under Phases VII through IX. Project completion will involve
final reclamation and site monitoring to determine progress and success of constructed wetlands.
2-2
