CASTLE OOIdCRETE COMPANY'S
1982 ANNUAL RFPOFQ'
SNYDER QUARRY
~~-uo

P^..Y 2 7 1982
~ P°°"
tinr~~n ~ai~n R~c~ar~ario~u
Co!o Cept. ct Aiatural Reso!~rces
INl%)1XICTION: In a generalized view, the changes at this quarry in
the last year have not been of a large nature. The underground mine has
been essentially shut down until demand for the high calcium limestone
increases. The open pit has continued to operate and several new benches
created, especially at the back of the quarry. The visual berm was
graded in a large part and seeded to provide growth that can help mitigate
the visual impact of the quarry.
RULE 2.41(1): The acreage of mined land increased about 1 acre
over that of the previous year. This leaves about 1 acre within the
permit boundary that needs to have mining initiated. Most of the mining
in the last year occurred on the west, northwest, and north side of the
quarry. By year's end, the time was approaching when the processing
plant would need to be iroved so the center of the pit crould be mined.
therefore, by year's end, the operation was nearing the end of the
Initial Step in developing the open pit mine.
Waste rock has now beoane a problem because the berm has been
finished and there is no longer any place to put the waste and because
the market for the waste product has softened. At present, a plan is
being developed to dispose of this waste. Nearby projects may place a
great demand for this waste, but that need may not develop for score
time. In the meantime, some place must be found to put the waste,
