PETROLEUM PRODUCTS- ANTIFREEZE -MILL HEATING SvsTeM
Approximately 34,000 gallons of a 50 percent ethylene glycol in water
solution are contained in the mill heating system which consists of toilers,
heat exchangers, and pipelines. Leaks or breaks in the system should be
isolated by shutoff valves and repaired. Any drainage or spills due to routine
maintenance are captured and recycled by placing in the make-up tank. In the
unlikely event of a major break in the system, the solution would be
contained behind the tailing dam (Figure 2).
PETROLEUM PRODUCTS - COHEREX -MILL TAILINGS AREA
Coherex is a biodegradable hydrocarbon consisting of 50 percent petroleum
resins and 40 percent wetting solution.and is used in dust control during the
summer and fall on the roads and on the tailing pond (Figure 2). A Coherex
and water mixture is sprayed on roads and on the tailing pond by a 3,000
gallon Tryco balloon tired vehicle or a 2,800 gallon Terragator balloon tired
vehicle.
The Coherex solution is stored near the pond maintenance building in two
dual-walled steel 10,000 gallon storage tanks mounted on a concrete pad
that drains to a central location, where any spillage would be collecte~j and
drained to the tailings impoundment. There is a visual leak detection s~~stem
in place to determine if drainage to the sump has occurred.
PETROLEUM PRODUCTS- USED OIL from MILL
Used oil resulting from equipment oil changes is collected in 550 gallor tote
containers, which are located in various buildings throughout the Mill site.
Full totes are temporarily stored in the fully contained oil storage building.
The used oil is recycled by an off site vendor.
PETROLEUM PRODUCTS -OIL, SOLVENT, etc.
New oil at the mill is received in 55 gallon drums and 300 gallon bulk totes.
These drums are stored, prior to use, in the contained Oil and Bulk Storage
building (Figure 2). The containment will hold 8,250 gallons which exceeds
the amount of spillage expected in one incident involving drum damage or
rupture. Individual drum containment is utilized at specific usage locations.
Combustible solvents are also stored in the Oil and Bulk Storage buil~jing.
Flammable solvents are stored, prior to use, in the Flammable Materials /
Hazardous Waste Storage Building (Figure 2) on containment pallets.

Page 6
