The Division has the following questions conceming the hydrologic monitoring:
The permit application does not appear to list the required field parameters for surface water and
ground water monitoring. Please point out in the permit application where the field parameters list
is or revise the permit application to include such a list.
2. On page 7 of the 2000 Annual Report, it is shown that quarterly field parameters and quarterly lab
parameters are required for alluvial ground water wells MWO1, MW02 and MW03. However,
there are no field parameters, except for water level, and no lab parameters for MW02 for the
entire year. Also, there are no first quarter lab parameters for MWOl and no first quarter field ar
lab parameters for MW03. These three sites are accessible during the winter months. Please
explain these omissions.
The submittal shows that quarterly field sampling was done for springs 51013 and 51404, with no
winter access for the first quarter. However, Table 1 shows that monthly sampling at these two
locations is required. Please explain.
4. There were no annual lab analyses for springs 50805 and S 1013, and for springs/ponds SP0701
and SP2200, even though there were discharges during some of the months. Please explain the
reason for the omissions.
There was no quarterly lab sampling for Terror Creek location SW02 and no second quarter lab
sampiing for Steven's Gulch location SWOS, even though there was flow in those streams during
those visits. Please explain these omissions.
6. There were several missing pazameters in the lab analyses for streams and springs. There was no
TSS analysis in the third quarter for East Roatcap Creek location SW06, no TSS analysis in the
atmual lab analysis for spring 53000, and no TSS analysis for the second and third quarters for
springs S3100 and 53200. Please explain.
There were several missing pazameters in the lab analyses for ponds, as well. There were no TSS
measurements in the annual lab analyses for ponds P0306, P8700 and P8900. Also, there were no
sulfate measurements in the annual parameters for ponds P1002, PI004, P1007, P1009, P150] and
P8700. Please explain.
2000 Annual Mine Inflow Report
The Division has no questions conceming the 2000 Mine Inflow Report. There was no annual mine inflow
study conducted in 2000 due to the sealing of the mine adits for reclamation. Historically, mine water
inflows have not been significant. Water usage in 2000 was essentially restricted to water consumption at
the train loadout and to evaporative losses at the ponds.
2000 Annual Subsidence Report
The Division has no questions concerning the 2000 Annual Subsidence Report. The subsidence
monitoring report consisted of the results from those monitoring locations proposed and approved in the
