. compared to prior years, or fluctuate as a result of annual precipitaxion changes. TDS
values at Hells 46-A and 21-LHI have decreased this year.
Surface Hater
Table 15 (Appendix A) lists pertinent information on all NPDES, stream, and spring
monitoring sites at the Seneca II Mine. NPDES Discharge Points 002, 003, 004, and 008 are
monitored weekly for flow and field parameters (pH, conductivity, and temperature).
Monitoring for total suspended solids, total iron, total dissolved solids, oil and grease,
and floating solids is performed in accordance with the terms and frequencies stipulated
in NPDES Permit N0. (0-0000221. Flow at Sites NPDES 002 and 003 is monitored continuously
through the year via H-flumes with Stevens Type F water level recorders; flow at Sites
NPDES 004 and 008 is monitored continuously via Parshall flumes equipped with Stevens Type
F water level recorders. The only time of the year during which flow is not monitored
continuously is during the winter months when the stilling cells are frozen.
Stream Monitoring Sites SH-52-1, 2, 5, and 6 are monitored monthly for instantaneous floe
and field parameters from March through October. Crest stage gages are located at each of
the stream sites. All crest stage gages are used to record peak flow Stage hel gh ts. Peak
flows are then calculated by incorporating these peak floe stage values and channel survey
data (stream cross section and slope) into the Manning's Equation. Appendix F of this AHR
contains the most recent versions of rating curves developed for [he cresC stage gages.
All of the NPDES end stream monitoring Sites 1, 2, 5, and 6 are sampled three limes a year
for water quality. The first Sample of the year is Collected prior to peak runoff
(March); the second sample is collected after peak runoff (May or June); and the third
Sample iS Collected during base flow conditions (September}, Samples collected at all
these sites were analyzed using the surface water long list, Table 16 (Appendix A).
Four new surface water sixes were added at Seneca II in 1987. Site SH-52.10 is at the
mouth of Low Camp Creek, Site SH-S2-11 is on Fish Creek upstream of the confluence with
Cow Camp Creek, Site SH-S2-12 is at the mouth of Bond Creek and Site Sw-52-13 is on Fish
Creek downstream of [he confluence with Bond Creek. They were monitored monthly during
the 1990 eater year from May to September. Samples collected at these sites in May, June,
and September were analyzed using the Long list. The surface eater short List, Table 17
(Appendix A) was used t0 analyze samples collected in July and August.
11
