• RECLAMATION REPORT
The aerial survey, optical scanning and digitizing services for the 2001 AHR
Report were again contracted to Cooper Aerial Survey Company of Tucson,
Arizona and to BE&K/Terranext, LLC (Ten-anext) of Lakewood, Colorado.
No additional acreage was "disturbed" during 2001. The primary focus of
the reclamation effort was the complete rework of an area of 12.6 acres
located south of Sediment Pond 2. This parcel was originally seeded in
1995, and then interseeded in 1998. However, a combination of factors
including: cheat grass, rodent activity, lack of organic material and possibly
too much topsand, minimized the success of previous attempts to establish
the reclamation seed mix. This area was burned in the spring, to control and
kill as much cheat grass as possible. In late summer it was disked
thoroughly to dislodge the rodent population and breakup the top layer in
preparation for a new seedbed. Then Biocomp (A-1 Organics) was added
and the ground was disked again. The reclamation seed mix was planted on
. 11/16/01.
In addition, topsanding (the placement of 2 feet of topsand) was completed
on a narrow band of approximately 3.9 acres in the southeast corner of B-Pit.
This area was covered with a combination of Biocomp and manure. It will
await completion of additional topsanding work in the area of south B-Pit
during 2002, then be seeded in 2003.
These parcels are identified on the Existing Surface Features and Utilities
Map (page I33) or on the Vegetation/RevegetationMap (page 135). Because
the primary focus was on rework of previously reclaimed acreage, the 2001
reclamation summary is unchanged from the previous year.
RECLAMATION ACREAGE SUMMARY
Total area remaining to be reclaimed 234.3 acres
Total area reclaimed and revegetated 221.5 acres
Grand Total 455.8 acres
AHR 2001 -123-
