• Mine Waste Rock Disposal
CEC has received approvals from CDPHE, from Weld County, and from
CDMG (Minor Revision #34), to dispose of mine waste rock at the
Keenesburg Mine site. During 1998 and 1999 a total of 12,467tons of mine
waste rock, from sites in the Clear Creek drainage near Idaho Springs, was
transported to the Keenesburg site. This material was placed, in a layer
about four feet thick, between "lifts" of ash in the existing disposal pit (B-
Pit). As discussed in MR #34, the intent the mine waste rock placement
activity, is to minimize the possibility for future contamination.
No additional mine waste rock was received for disposal during the calendar
year 2001. Thus the total quantity of this material at the site remains at
12,467 tons. The placement and horizontal extent of the mine waste rock
has been identified on the Existing Surface Features and Utilities Map (page
133).
•
AHR-2001 -92-
