1
1

1
1

1

Banks and Gesso, LLC
(f) Description of Overburden, Deposit and Underlying Stratum
Based on the exploratory boreholes, the topsoil-overburden ranges from one to
eleven feet, averaging 5.8 feet in depth. Based on the number of vegetable and
other agricultural crops grown in surrounding areas, the topsoils are anticipated
to be very fertile for reclamation efforts.
The alluvial deposit to be mined varies in thickness from eleven to twenty-five
feet in depth, averaging 20.8 feet. It varies from fine sand and gravels in the
upper zones, to coarse sand and larger cobbles near bedrock. It has a
reputation for being processed into high-quality concrete aggregates, asphalt
aggregates, and other construction materials.
The underlying bedrock on the property is the Denver /Arapaho shale.
(g) Primary and Secondary Commodities
The primary commodii:y to be extracted is the alluvial sand and gravel. It will be
processed and sold a:. concrete aggregates and other construction aggregates.
The secondary commodities to be sold, subject to reclamation requirement
quantities, are topsoil ;and overburden materials.
(h) Incidental Product::
' The Applicant will seek local permits to allow recycling of asphalt and concrete
materials. Permits for a temporary, project-oriented portable concrete plant will
' also be sought. The materials will be processed into crushed base-course,
structural fill, and feedstock for asphalt production. Some of the concrete
materials will be processed as rip-rap for on-site erosion control.
' RECLAMATION PLAN

1

J
1
The post-mining land use for the Speer Mine will be for awater-storage reservoir,
with surrounding wetland areas producing beneficial wildlife habitat. Many
portions of Area 3 have no topsoil, and are covered by noxious weeds. The
reclamation efforts in this area should greatly improve the quality of wildlife
habitat, with thicker topsoil, reseeding with native, wetland-type plants and a
closer proximity to natural water levels. The specifics of the Area 3 reclamation
are described below in a separate section. After reclamation, the Applicant will
place the property improved by Area 3 reclamation in a conservation easement,
as a permanent wildliff; area. The overall reclamation plan is described below:
Speer Mining Resource ~~ 99035
Asphalt Specialties Company, Inc July 24, 2000
