mining timetable, that is, Tract C was not anticipated to be
affected until this next year.
In summary, the 1979-1980 permit year saw an expansion
of the pit from 14 acres to about 15± 0.5 acres. This expansion
occurred in the direction and location indicated in the permit
application, but was slightly less than the amount of land
anticipated to be affected. Therefore, the operation is about 4 to
6 months behind the approved timetable in the permit.
Rule 2.41 (2): No acreage was reclaimed in the 1979-1980 permit
year. Operational requirements continue to place such demands
that none of the pit itself can be completely reclaimed.
Rule 2.41 (3): As indicated in the previous section, no land has
been completely reclaimed in this operation because the operation
continues to place demands on virtually all the operation. Also,
the final land use still considered as a feasible alternative
(number three in the Company's approved reclamation plan) is as
a landfill and as such reclamation of slopes in a pit that will in
all likelihood be filled is self-defeating.
However, all areas not under the current direct
impact of extraction have been rough graded to an average
slope of about 2:1 with a range between 4:1 or 5:1 and 1:1.
Approximately two acres of the south facing slope on
the north side of the pit was seeded on April 23 and 24, 1980
with Yellow Sweet Clover at a rate of 2 pounds per acre.
This was done to help stabilize the slope as well as experiment
with the revegetation of steep slopes with sandy soils.
