M. P. Boulay - 2 - July 24, 1996
vertical continuity above the coal seams to be mined. Water
in the coal and sandstones above the coal seams to be mined
appear to occur in localized perched systems. No water has
been reported to be encountered during exploratory drilling,
and no significant water has been encountered in either the
old Edwards Mine workings or the current Bear No. 3 Mine.
Although subsidence may impact some perched water systems, the
consequences of mining on the hydrologic balance, existing
water resources, and water rights will be minimal and probably
non-existent. Bear does not consider an ephemeral drainage to
be a water resource.
6. The DMG notes it is unclear where the depth to water is
measured from. Bear notes that the DMG must have been unclear
on this point since about 1985. Depth to water is measured
from the top of the surface casing. This fact is noted on the
enclosed revised page 2.
Please call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
~~
Jim Stover, P.E.
Consulting Engineer
cc: Basil Bear
