The letter explained the circumstances <br />surrounding the sampling and reporting of the exceedance, and discussed <br />plans to conduct additional sampling and investigate the cause and/or <br />source of the pollutant. .. <br />Oil and grease, and total petroleum hydrocarbon data collected at Outfall <br />003 following detection of the exceedance were all at or below detection <br />limits (see attached Table 1), indicating the probable short-duration of the <br />non-compliance flow. The source is suspected to be the truck wash <br />settling pond located upstream of the outfall (see Figure 4, page lh of the <br />Permit for a schematic of the flow system for the 003 discharge point). <br />The settling pond was cleaned out during the period April 22-25 as a <br />matter of routine maintenance. This process involves dewatering the pond <br />as much as possible, utilizing aback-hoe or similar equipment to muck-out <br />the residue collected from washed-trucks and refilling the pond. The <br />mucking-out process may have resulted in the re-suspension of oil and <br />grease laden sediment in water remaining in the bottom of the settling <br />r1 <br />L J <br />F-5 <br />
