i <br />i , <br />5.2 Historic Resources <br />While inventories of the prehistoric resources at the Dowe <br />' Flats area are numerous, historic inventories are more limited. <br />The Class I and Class II Dowe Flats historic surveys found eight <br />potential historic resources located with the Study Area. The <br />' Class II survey identified and recorded six buildings, structures, <br />and features. Of the six resources of sufficient age (50 years old <br />' or older) to be considered as possibly significant historic <br />resources, four were irrigation ditches, one was an equipment shed <br />and the other was a thresher or corn sheller and associated jumble <br />of used fencing. Two additional resources were less than 40 years <br />' old and were not of exceptional significance. <br />The shed and thresher were recorded and recommended as not <br />eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. <br />' The shed and farm machinery are not considered significant because <br />of their lack of identifiable contributions to agricultural <br />' development. The shed lacks architectural significance as <br />representing a unique or important pattern in rural vernacular <br />architecture. <br />The four ditches are historic with the earliest dates of <br />appropriation for each being 1862. Within the Study Area, all of <br />the ditches have a high degree of integrity, convey the feeling of <br />irrigation supply ditches and represent a major theme of northern <br />' Boulder County agricultural development. <br />Outside the Study Area are additional historic resources. The <br />Class I study found two other resources, previously determined <br />eligible: the Montgomery School and the Gerstenkorn Homestead <br />(Centennial Farm) located on nearby Colorado Highway 66. The <br />Montgomery School may prove to be in areas of secondary impacts <br />' from vibration or other damage related to mining or construction <br />activities. <br />LJ <br /> <br />59 <br />1 <br />
