Henderson Mining Permit No. 77-342
February 21, 1983
Page Three
2,200 cubic yards of topsoil were placed in the area.
Another 14,500 cubic yards of topsoil were pushed into
temporary storage piles on the west edge of the tailing basin
in advance of tailing deposition.
Topsoil/tailing test plots were constructed on the
perimeter of the stockpile area. Four depths of soil (0",
6", 12" and 18") were placed on 3 feet of tailing in 10' x
10' compartments and crossed with four rates of lime (0, 2,
4, and 6 tons/acre) in a 4 x 4 factorial design, with a
replicate, to ascertain the validity of the tailing
reclamation plan. The entire 40' x 80' plot was seeded with
our Climax seed mix at 50 pounds per acre, and fertilize~9 at
the standard rate (100 lbs./acre of 20-20-10 (N-P-K)). 'Phe
results of the tests should provide longrange insight as to
the most cost effective method to attain reasonable
reclamation of tailing.
Area 22 - After a determination that the loss of a
portion of this area would not interfere with our operational
needs, the Western Slope Gas Co. was granted an easement deed
to approximately five acres, four of which are inside
affected lands boundary of this area (see map). The
compressor station they are constructing covers the small
disturbance which we had in this area. The compressor
station is not associated with Henderson mining activities
and we consider that these four acres of disturbance are no
longer related to our permit.
Area 23 - Phase I construction of Lost Creek Reservoir
and pipeline was completed in the late fall of 1981. Thee
access/pipeline road cuts and fills were seeded along wil:h
about five acres of disturbance around the dam. Further
reclamation will not take place until the dam is completed in
the mid to late 1980's.
Forest Management Program - AMAX owns approximately
22,000 acres of land in association with the Henderson
Mine/Mill complex. The Company intends to practice fore:;t
management on approximately 10,000 acres of the forested
lands. The Colorado State Forest Service was retained to do
an inventory of timber resources near the mill. The State
Forest Service is now preparing a Timber Management plan
based on this inventory which will allow us to
comprehensively manage the timber on a sustained yield b~isis
to insure it's health and vigor while also being mindful of
natural resource values other than metals. Some of the
timber management activities will take place within the
