Response: Additional sampling and monitoring has been completed for the 2004 season to determine
appropriate responses.
We alto evaluated the 1996 and 1999 arear against the diverrity rtandard that is currently approved for the 77-W South
Extenrion Area. This it a romewhat lerr rigorour life farm bared rtandard, which facurer on native rpecier and includes both
relative cover and rpecies density componentr. Under this framework, native perennialgrarrer (ar agroup) are to comprire
between 20% and 95% relative Inver, with a mean . pecier denrity of at leart 5 species per 100 square meterr. Native forbr
(ar agroup) am to camprire between 7% and 75% relative cover, with a mean density of at leant l.S rpecierper 100 rquare
meterr.
Bared on our interpretation of this rtandard ar applied to the data, both the 1996 and 1999 reclamation areas would meet
this alternative rtandard (although we note that thin rtandard it cu»rntly not approved for the subject rec/aimed
areas).
The relative coverleveLr apecifzed for individual rhrub and (erpecially) tree .pecier in the cumntly appmved rtandard may be
di~icult to achieve in the near term.
Please review this evaluation, and include a surnrnary assessment ofcompliance with the species
diversity standard in the report narrative. Certain modifications to the species diversity standard
to correspond more closely to the approach approved for the II-l~South Extension may be
appropriate, subject to pertinent demonstration. Ifany such envision of the standard is
anticipated, we would request thatit be submitted well in advance ofany6nal bond release
application.
Response: This issue has been addressed as part of TR-50 (Midterm Review) and applicable modifications,
demonstrations, and discussions were included.
Annual Wildlife Report
The report appearr to have been completed in accordance with permit and regulatory requirementr, and we have no rpecifrc guertionr
or comments.
Response: No response required.
If the Division has further questions or comments, please contact me at (970) 276-5227.
