would indicate that the upstream method of pond construction may
' have been used, at least partially. This may indicate that Fox's
assumed cross-sections A-A and B-B may be correct, or part:ally so.
Excavation in the area during operation of the landfill wi:Ll
determine what is actually present. If, as indicated in Ui:e test
' hole 4, the clay is underlain by sand, a substantial volumE~ of waste
may be landfilled in trenches excavated along the southern portion
of the pond. ,
' Ground water is visible along the northern periphery of the landfill
site. Surface water occurs in natural drainages north and west of the
' site. Surface water is ditched around the proposed site to the
existing decant tube, then to the interceptor ponds south of the site.
Fox encountered gound water in drill holes 4, 6 and 8 at elevations
9,417, 9415, and 9,411 respectively. Ute engineers found i:hree PVC
cased holes assumed to be drill holes 4, 7 and 9. O this, 10.33 inches occur during
1 the four months of July, August, September and October. About 6.43
inches occur during the winter as snowfall. The remaining 5.77 inches
occurs generally as rainfall during the rest of the year. The land
' in the area is usually covered with snow from November through March
of each year. Snow cover is accepted by the residents of t:he area,
does not hamper them appreciably, and snow removal is quickly
accomplished as necessary. During the winter, the frost line will
probably be 6 feet or more in depth in areas cleared of snow for
about 4 months of each year.
