~..
• In addition to the required evaluation, circular plots and point intercept line
transacts were utilized to evaluate topsoil embankments. Results from random
h
circular plots indicated 38% ground cover for perennial species, weed 7% and
barelrockllitter 54°~. Table 5-3 presents percent ground cover data for individual
plots. Plots on the topsoil embankment near evaporation ponds clearly indicate
more weeds are present than other topsoil embankments. Table 5-4 presents the
number of plants per plot and acre. This data is interesting for future prediction of
reclamation success. Percent ground cover indicates perennial species make up a
lower than desirable (after final reclamation phase) portion of ground cover, but
,.
F_ number of perennial species from data shown on Table 5-4 indicates successful
germination and if majority of perennial species survive through year 3, predict
reclamation success. If adequate perennial species are present, weeds will be
eliminated. Table 5-5 presents point intercept line transact data from topsoil
• embankments. Percent cover results are similar to Table 5-3 but again, data from
different areas indicates immature nature of seeded species for percent cover and
variable reclamation success of topsoil areas.
In conclusion, first year reclamation data indicates successful germination with low
percent cover, but with maturity of existing seeded species, reclamation success is
indicated.

41
