• 4.3 New Findings or Developments
4.3.1 1991 Operation Results
a. 1991 mining activities started in February and extended into August.
A summary of results follows:
Recovery Tons Cum.
Gallons Temp. % Bicarb Halite Mined" Tons
' Feb 4,701 155 9.7 3.9 50 50
Mar 13,080 171 8.7 8.9 250 300
Apr 18,073 189 8.4 6.9 465 765
May 10,841 181 6.8 11.1 176 941
Jun 11,364 201 8.4 6.5 943 1,884
Jul 7,413 194 10.9 2.0 802 2,685
Aug 7,741 194 11.5 1.1 1,114 3,800
• Note: This total tons produced is an adjusted figure from Monthly
Reports based on more accurate truck scale weight data. Production
shown is greater than figure reported in Section 3.1.4 as material
mined includes = 328 tons in process pond.
b. As illustrated in operation results (Section 4.3.1a1, bicarb saturation
of the pregnant liquor was not achieved during 1991, resulting in
moderate values for percent bicarb and specific gravity. Nahcolite did
not leach as readily as expected. However, with time (February -
August) saturation values increased, and with processing experience,
the differential between pregnant and barren liquor values for specific
gravity increased (see Figure 4-31. This increase resulted in increased
bicarb production (see Figure 4-4).
i
19
