itoring ::•as terminated in December, 1984 and remained
inactive while New Castle Energy (Storm Rine Mines) con-
tinued with mine development plans. In July, 1985 an
operational monitoring program was established, designed
around the new facility location. To supplement the
existing wells, three new downgradient wells were drilled
in August, 1985 (OTa-12, 13, and 14) (Attachment G provides
a table of Yrell completion details). Of the three wells,
only OTd-14 encountered saturated material at depths of 117
or less. Uporadient wells Otd-3L and OP7-7 remained dry
during the monitoring period.
In response to initiation of site construction, the op-
erational :monitoring program is required to collect
monthly field parameters and quarterly :eater quality
samples. After the mine development phase is complete,
the monitoring program will be reduced to quarterly
field parameters and annual water quality samples.
Baseline sampling in the area of the proposed loadout
facility will be discussed in Section 2.3
Two problems that developed during operational monitor-
ing in 1985 were difficult access to SK-3.75 due to heavy
snow ?;, late fall/early winter and inability to use SR-3H
because of its proximity tc tunnel development. In
Januarv, 1986 a double track snowmobile was located which
allo:•:ed access to SK-3.75. Also in January, 1986, tunnel
development proceeded sufficiently to allow SR-3H to again
be used as a monitoring site.
Z
