• ,.br ~
Permit No:: CO-0034142
C. DEFINITIONS OF TERMS (Continued)-
In calculating the geometric mean, for those individual sample results that aze reported by the analytical laboratory to be "less tha "
a numeric value, the numeric value shall be used in the calculations unless the result is ."less than 2.2", If the restilt is "less
2.2", use a. value of ] in the calculations. If all individual analytical results for the month are reported to be less than Hain
values, then report'7ess than" the largest of those numeric values on the monthly DMR. Otherwise, report the calculated value
. For any individual analytical result of "too numerous to count" (TNTC), that analysis shall be considered invalid and another
sample shall be promptly collected for analysis.
If another sample cannotbe collected within the same sampling period for which the invalid sample was collected (during the same
month if monthly sampling is requued, during the same week if weekly sampling is requued, etc.), then the following procedures
apply.
i) A minimum of two samples shall be collected for coliform analysis within th'e next sampling period..
ii) If the samnline freouencv is month]v.or less frequent: For the period with the invalid sample results, leave the spaces on the
corresponding DMR for reporting coliforrn results empty and attach to the DMR a letter noting that a result of TNTC was
obtained for that period; and explain why another sample for that period had not been cb7lbcted.
If the samoline freouencv is more freouent than monthly: Eliminate the result of TNTC from any further calculations, and use
all the other results obtained within that month for reporting purposes. Attach a letter noting that a result of TNTC was
obtained, and list all individual analytical results and corresponding sampling dates fofthat month
6. "Grab" sample is a single "dip and take" sample to be representative of the parameter being rrionitored, -
7. "Inactive mining" operations aze mining operations that are not being actively mined.
® 9..
8. "In-situ", measurement is defined as a single reading, observation or measurement taken in the field at the point of discharge.
"Instantaneous" measurement is a single reading, observation, or measurement performed on site using existing mono g
facilities.
]0. "Mining operations" include facilities classified as Standazd Industrial Classification Codes,l0 through 14 (mineral industry),
including active or;inactive Honing activities, This definition includes operations that have temporarily ceased mining and are in
"temporary cessation" status with the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology.
ll. "Mine waste," for the purposes of this permit, means any mineral material such as overburden, raw materials, intermediate
products, byproducts, finished products or waste products, which is or has been mechanically disturbed or moved from its naturally
occurring location as part of a mineral extraction (mining) activity. Examples of mine waste include: mine tailings, which is ore
that has gone through a milling process and then been discarded, and waste rock, which is rock that has been moved from its
natural location, but not processed.
]2. "Quarterly measurement frequency" means samples may be collected at any time during the calendaz quarter if a continual
discharge occurs. Iftht discharge is intermittent, then samples shall be collected during the period that dischazge occurs.
13. "Recorder" requires the continuous operation of a chart andlor totalizer (or drinking water rotor meters or pump hour meters where
previously approved.)
14.
~15.
"Seven (7) day average" means, with the exception of fecal coliform bacteria, the arithmetic mean of all samples collected in a
seven consecutive day period. Foi fecal coliform bacteria, it is the geometric mean of al] samples taken in a seven consecutive day
period. Such seven day averages'=sha11 be calculated for all calendar weeks, which are defined as beginning on Sunday and ending
on Saturday. If the calendaz week overlaps two months (i.e. the Sunday is in one month and the Saturday in the following month),
the seven day average calculated for that calendar week shall be associated with the month that contains the Saturday. Samples
may not be used for more than one reporting period. (I~rot applicable to fecal coliform determinations.)
"Stormwater" is precipitation-induced surface runoff. .
