CASTLE CONCRETE COMPANY'S
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
1987 ANNUAL REPORT FOR: SAND PIT
PERMIT NUMBER: 77-213
DATE OF INSPECTION FOR DATA IN REPORT: MAY 11, 1987
SUMMARY: About 3 more acres of land was brought under
extraction activity. Most of this land was on the southwest
and west sides of the operation. The alteration of the
irrigation ditch route was completed and the pipe across
Academy Boulevard removed. Some additional backfilling
occurred on the north side of the operation, but no
additional revegetation was done other than along the
regraded ditch slopes east of Academy Boulevard. It was
decided that the seeding done last year was a failure due to
abnormally dry and warm winter weather subsequent to
seeding.
RULE 2.41 1 LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES AFFECTED DURING THAT YEAR.
During the 1986-1987 permit year approximately 3 additional acres
were affected. As was true in the past, most of the permit area is
affected in one fashion or another throughout the year at various times.
Most of that affected land is involved in support facilities rather than
actual extraction work. Most of this area is involved in roads and
temporary material stockpiles. The only area which is yet unaffected
directly by this operation is the top of the dike where the irrigation
ditch formerly existed.
The extraction work occurred in the southwest corner and west side
of the operation. The ridge separating the operation from the
Supperstein property was removed and Supperstein re-established their
fenceline. Some additional extraction occurred to the north of this
area (west side of piC), but as of the inspection date had not been
completed.
The most significant event was the completion of the new ditch
route along the north side of the pit, under Academy Boulevard and the
removal of the 72" pipe and concrete supports of the old ditch. This
removal has greatly improved the appearances of the Academy Boulevard
area, not to mention the removal of a hazard to the heavy traffic.
Near the end of the permit year, work began on the first cut
through the dike separating this operation and the Daniels Sand Company
Pit N2 area to the south. This first cut, as a result of somewhat
reduced demand for sand, will take a considerable amount of time to
complete, especially when it is considered that the west side ridge
reduction is yet to be completed.
Page 1 of 3 Permit 77-213 Sand Pit 1987 Annual Report
