(17.7 acre-feet per year) because of low recharge rates in the area and
low permeabilitiee of the aquifers. The City of Florence has historically
diverted most of the available streamflow of Newlin Creek upstream of the
mine site, resulting in a predominately dry stream channel for a distance
of nine miles to Newlin Creek's confluence with Hardecrabble Creek. From
the mine site to the confluence with Hardecrabble Creek, Newlin Creek is a
losing stream. It is likely that the small volume of water historically
discharged by the Red Arrow and Dirty Jack O'Lantern seams rarely. if
ever. historically significantly affected the flow of Aardacrabble Creek
below the confluence.
Carrent and Projected Water Osage
In 1985. the Southfield Hine produced approximately 464,000 tons of raw
coal. with a consumptive use of water of 39.5 acre-feet for that year.
Monthly consumptive use rates ranged from 2.9 acre-feet in the winter to
3.8 acre-feet in the summer. The principal consumptive use of water at
the mine site is duet control within the mine. Puture production of raw
coal at the mine is expected to reach 780.000 tone. At this production
rate. mining will continue until approximately 1996 and the annual
consumptive use of water ie estimated to be 58.8 acre-feet. with 4.6
acre-feet per month consumptively used in the winter and 5.5 acre-feet per
month consumptively used in the summer.
Conclusion
Water avialable in the ground water system may be used at the mine site
with no significant effect on the flows available to water users o0
Hardecrabble Creek or the Arkansas Basin. Futhermore, since the Corley
Mine well is a decreed well and under the State Engineer's Rules and
Regulations may pump 41.4 acre-feet per year. current usage of this well
at the mine is consistent with applicable rules and regulations.
- 3 -
