ANNUAL REPORT
MONOGRAM MINES
PERMIT M-1978-222-UG
RECEIVED
FEB 181003
61~ISIon ~f Minerals and Geology
February, 2003
A Project Location Map, 1" = 300', and a Great Hesper Pit Map, 1' = 100', are
submitted herewith. Both of these maps present information from field surveying conducted
during 2002.
Following site inspections and follow up visits and correspondence between the
Division of Minerals & Geology ("the Division") and International Uranium (USA)
Corporation ("the Operator"), conclusions were reached as to which of the mine sites have
reclamation obligations under Permit M-1978-222-UG ("the Permit"). This turned out to be
quite an intensive effort due to the poor quality of historical maps and the gaps in file
information. Records submitted by prior operators state that the only mine site disturbed after
the issuance of the Permit was the Great Hesper Pit. Several other sites were listed under the
original Permit, but no disturbance activities were conducted on any of these sites. Therefore,
the other sites named under the original Permit are "historical" operations and are not subject
to reclamation by the Operator under this Permit.
The status of individual sites is further complicated due to the presence of a large
number of historical mine sites in the vicinity of the Permit and by the fact the Monogram-Jo
Dandy Permit, M-1977-293, covers a number of sites intermingled through this same area.
The Project Location Map shows the affected sites under both the Monogram Mines Permit
M-1978-222-UG and the Monogram-Jo Dandy Permit M-1977-293. Details of sites under the
Monogram-Jo Dandy Permit M-1977-293 will be covered separately in its Annual Report.
The Project Location Map shows four types of sites:
- "Historical Mine Sites." Some of these sites were listed under the original Permit,
but were never affected following Permit issuance. These sites are shown on the
map simply for reference. The Operator elected to locate and survey the sites that
were originally named under the Permit to provide a permanent record to facilitate
future site visits and to establish a permanent record with the Division.
- "Monogram-Jo Dandy Permit M-1977-293" sites. These sites are shown in order
to clarify which sites are covered under which permit in this area.
- "Monogram Mines Permit M-1978-222-UG" sites. The Great Hesper Pit is shown
outlined in dark red. This affected area boundary includes the area of final
reclamation work done by the Operator in 2002.
- "Areas Reclaimed -Operator Diligence". In the course of conducting final
reclamation work on the Great Hesper Pit and other affected sites in the area, the
Operator voluntarily closed a number of hazardous openings and reseeded several
disturbed areas, as shown on the map.
1
