Site <br />chazacteristics include: 18% slope in reclaimed, fenced, aspen reseazch plot; west- <br />southwest aspect; aspen plot with some grasses, forbs, and weeds; reapplied topsoil; well <br />drained; moderate permeability; none to slight erosion at site; sampled July 25, 2006; soil <br />samples for lab include 0-8" (reapplied topsoil), 8-24" (reapplied topsoil), 24-36" (mix of <br />reapplied topsoil and weathered overburden spoil), and 36-65" (overburden spoil). <br />A horizon - 0 to 8 inches; brown (lOYR 5/3) loam, dazk brown (lOYR 4/3) moist; <br />moderate medium platy structure parting to moderate medium granulaz structure; slightly <br />hard dry consistence, friable moist consistence, sticky and slightly plastic wet <br />consistence; common fine and very fine, and few medium and coazse roots; <br />• noneffervescent, neutral (pH 6.8, from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. <br />Cl horizon - 8 to 24 inches; brown (lOYR 5/3) silt loam, dazk brown (IOYR 4/3) moist; <br />moderate medium subangulaz blocky structure over massive structure; slightly hazd dry <br />consistence, friable moist consistence, sticky and slightly plastic wet consistence; <br />common fine and very fine and few medium and coarse roots; noneffervescent, slightly <br />acid, (pH 6.4, from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. <br />C2/OB1 horizon (mix of reapplied topsoil and weathered overburden spoil) - 24 to 36 <br />inches; grayish brown (lOYR 5/2) silt loam, dazk grayish brown (lOYR 4/2) moist; <br />massive structure; hazd dry consistence, firm moist consistence, sticky and plastic wet <br />consistence; slightly effervescent, neutral (pH 7.3, from lab data); gradual wavy <br />boundary. <br />OB2 (overburden spoil) - 36 to 65 inches; dazk gray (lOYR 4/1) loam overburden spoil, <br />very dazk gray (lOYR 3/1) moist; compacted, massive structure; extremely hazd dry <br />consistence, very firm moist consistence, sticky and plastic wet consistence; slightly to <br />moderately effervescent, slightly alkaline (pH 7.4); gradual wavy boundary. <br />2W Mine Reclaimed Land Soi[ Pit 2WTS-06-P3 (2W Pit 3) <br />Sample site 2WTS-06-P3 is located on reclaimed land at the 2W Mine.
