•
Area D - This area did not significantly change from what was
reported last year. This was indicated as Area C in last year's report.
Area E - This area has been under operation for a number of years.
Most of the work in this area in the last year occurred on the north
side. Final slopes are in the process of production and may be ready
for some reclamation during the next one to two years.
RULE 2.41(2): LOCATIONS AND NUMBER OF ACRES RECLAIMED FOR THAT YEAR.
The number of acres under reclamation is greatly dependent upon
what one considers as being part of reclamation. Approximately 10 to 12
acres to the west of Academy had been graded as of the date the
information for this report was collected and more may be finished by
the anniversary date, depending upon the weather.
Reclamation to the east of Academy Boulevard centered on the
relocation of the Fountain Mutual Ditch. The slope above the ditch was
placed in a revegetation status in March 1986.
RULE 2.41(3): THE LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES IN THE VARIOUS STAGES OF
RECLAMATION (BACKFILLED, GRADED, TOPSOIL REPLACED, REVEGETATED).
BACKFILLED: About 20 acres have been backfilled, depending upon
exactly what is considered to be backfilled. Most of this area includes
old settling ponds which have dried sufficiently to be considered to be
reasonably stable.
GRADED: There is no land in final grading. However, there are
several acres on the west side of Academy which have been placed in a
"temporary final grading" condition. It cannot be known at this time
whether the final elevations, slope and surface material are exactly
correct, but it is very close to the anticipated final elevation.
Unfortunately, until the ridge of sand is removed from between this
operation and Castle Concrete's Sand Pit to the north, it cannot be
determined for sure whether the current configuration of these graded
areas are in fact final.
TOPSOIL REPLACED: Although topsoil was not actually used, a
material suitable as a plant growth medium was placed as part of the
backfill over the old settling ponds.
Topsoil was also replaced on the ditch slope east of Academy
Boulevard. The soil was replaced to a depth of about 6 inches.
REVEGETATED: Approximately 3 acres near the entrance of the
operation is in a revegetation status, plus the ditch slope which
actually is the responsibility of Castle Concrete Company. The 3 acres
near the entrance was supplementally seeded this last spring and the
success of this seeding will be discussed in a later section of this
report, as will the seeding of the ditch slope.
FILE 73-7 ANNUAL REPORT - 1986/1987 PAGE 3 OF 6
