DANIELS SAND COMPANY
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
ANNUAL REPORT FOR PIT #2
FILE NO. M-73-7
REPORT PERIOD: JAN. 10, 1986 TO JAN. 7, 1987
ANNIVERSARY DATE: JANUARY 7, 1987
DATE OF DATA COLLECTION FOR REPORT: DECEMBER 1986
SUMMARY: During the past permit year, the relocation of the Fountain
Mutual Ditch was completed, under work performed by Castle Concrete
Company. Excavation of sand continued in Phases Ie and IIe as well as a
small amount of extraction in Phase IIw. Some final grading occurred on
some old settling ponds in Phase Iw. Supplemental seeding occurred on a
3 acre area in Phase IVw near the entrance to the operation. Ditch
slope revegetation also occurred under the work performed by Castle
Concrete Company as part of the ditch relocation.
RULE 2.41(1): LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES AFFECTED DURING THAT YEAR.
The enclosed maps show the two major portions of the Daniels Sand
Pit #2 operation area. Academy Boulevard divides the operation into a
western and an eastern portion. Most of the extraction work occurs east
of Academy while the land west of Academy is used mostly for processing
with minor amounts of extraction.
Estimates of the areas affected and/or actually utilized as part of
this operation show about 71 acres west and 49 acres east of Academy
were utilized. These values include roadways, extraction areas,
settling ponds, processing areas, storage areas, sales and distribution
offices, and any other land used in this operation in some way. Other
land which is not included in these values may be in a disturbed
condition, but their condition is due to causes other than this
operation and, although within the permit area, are not part of this
operation.
Examined in another way, about 37 percent of the total permit area
was utilized in the operation within the last year. Of the remaining 63
percent, most of that area was not disturbed and is in its original
condition. Only a small percentage is in a disturbed condition by
causes other than this operation.
WEST OF ACADEMY BOULEVARD
Processing - The processing area, which includes the scale house,
stockpiles, and other functions more directly related to marketing,
envelops an extensive area west of Academy Boulevard. Although the map
delineates a large area as being processing, in fact, most of the area
west of Academy is used for this function in one way or another. The
definition of processing utilized greatly determines where the boundary
between this use and other related uses would be established.
FILE 73-7 ANNUAL REPORT - 1986/1987 PAGE 1 OF 6
