1
San Luis Project - Phue ^ Rsix 1 Expansion Construction Statue Report
6.5 Material Type 3 -Liner Sub-base/Clay Liner Component
' Revising the allowable moisture content for placement of material Type 3 has not affected the
resulting density or permeability and thus does not affect the function of the facility.
6.6 Material Type 4 -Miscellaneous Fill
The use of material Type 4 as backfill for the tailings and return water pipeline ditches and a
' minor arroyo covered by the facility expansion and as general grading and contouring fill will
not affect the function of the facility.
' 6.7 Liner issues
' 6.7.1 Alteration of Phase 1-2 Liner Tie-In
Revision of the tie-in between the Phase 1 and Phase 2 liners results in a continuous layer of
' liner sub-base/clay liner below the VI.,DPE liner without an intervening pieces of liner at the
Phase 1 anchor trench which potentially could intercept seepage at the clay liver-VI.DPE liner
interface and deflect it downwards. As the liner is covered with the drainage blanket whose
' weight will anchor the liner, no intermediate anchor trench is required to prevent downslope
creep of the liner over time. Thus, the function of the facility is positively impacted by this
' revision.
6.7.2 Pipeline Underliner
' The use of a piece of HDPE liner to protect the VI.DPE liner beneath the pipelutes reduces the
1 potential for damage to the V1.,DPE liner and thus has a positive impact on the facility.
6.7.3 Conformance Samples
' The Owner has elected to submit liner samples for verification of manufacturer supplied
' information. This will verify that the liner meets the specifications and reduces the potential for
a negative impact associated with non-conformance liner material.

1
' October, 1993 22 SRK Project No. 14775
