San Luu Project - Pheae 11 Rain 1 8zpanaion ConaWCtion States Report
4.4.4 Random Fill
Material Type 4 is being used as random fill for general grading and backfilling localized
' depressions as well as for construction of the north and east dikes. Type 4 material utilized as
fill is placed in 12-inch maximum loose lifts within two percent of optimum moisture content
and compacted to 95 percent of maximum dry density (ASTM D-698). Type 4 material is also
utilized to construct liner cover/drain layer placement access roads. For this use, approximately
2-3 ft. of Type 4 material is placed over the liner cover layer to provide equipment access to
other areas.
4.5 Liner
' 4.5.1 Phase 1-2 Liner Tie-In
In order to create a continuous liner sub-based layer/clay liner layer beneath Ghe geomembrane
at the Phase 1 to Phase 2 de-in, the Phase 1 liner is cut at the anchor trench and laid back. The
liner within the anchor trench is then removed and Phase 2 sub-base is placed directly adjacent
' to the Phase 1 sub-base with no intervening synthetic liner. Detail of this ruin configuration
is depicted on Figure 2.
' 4.5.2 Pipeline Underliner
' In order to preclude the possibility that erosion of the liner cover layer beneath the tailings
distribution and water return pipelines could result in the pipeline(s) resting directly on the 40-
mil. VLDPE liner, a piece of 60-mil. HDPE liner is placed on top of the VLDPE liner beneath
the pipelines and liner cover layer. A full roll width, 22 ft, piece of HDP'E liner is being
utilized. This liner is not welded to the primary VLDPE liner.
' 4.5.3 Conformance Samples
The Owner has elected to sample the geosynthetic liner for third-party conformance testing to
verify that the actual material properties conform to the specifications of the Grier required to
be provided by the manufacturer. A 3 ft x 5 ft sample is collected from every 1Q0,000 ft= of
' liner delivered. These samples are sent to Precision Laboratories of Orange, California for
testing.
' October, 199J 9 SRK Project No. 14725
