. Dr. 'Richard War Chairman
March 2, 1979
Page Three
5. We initiated the use of a trash compactor for compact-
able refuse at the mine site. The results are reduced
requirements for incineration and refuse dump space.
6. We are just completing a 267 foot by 59 foot addition
to the office building at the mine site to provide
additional dry and office space. This project includes
an extension of parking facilities.
7. We leased a Tryco flotation-tired vehicle for spreading
Coherex on the tailing for dust control . This vehicle
is more efficient than the Flex-Trac vehicle previously
used for this task.
8 . A company sponsored C.S .U. study concerning mycoxrhizal-
inoculated evergreen seedlings has been completed.. The
initial year for field observations was 1978 and the
results are encouraging but inconclusive.
All land affected by the items listed above was previously
designated as disturbed in the accepted permit application.
Items 2, 3, 4 and 6 are shown on the updated map (enclosed) .
To facilitate the soil stockpiling operation, a 50 foot
by 1, 000 foot haul road was constructed just north of the
tailing toe dam. The road will be maintained throughout the
life of the mine for access inside the northern portion of
the tailing basin. Access is necessary for daily operation
as well as periodic timber removal, soil stockpiling opera-
tions, etc. The road will be extended as the tailing dam
grows in height and length. In fact, the road (presently
1. 15 acres) will probably be used for respreading the soil
during ultimate tailing reclamation and will be reclaimed as
a part of that 1, 314 acre disturbance.
Please find enclosed a check for $275. 00 for the annual
fee required by rule 2. 42 .
Sincerely,
AMAX INC.
rryaF Brown
Environmental Control Engineer
!_ J
Stanley Demp ey
Vice President
HSD:LFB:hmn
Enclosures
