CASTLE CONCRETE COMPANY'S
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
1987 ANNUAL REPORT FOR: SNYDER UQ ARRY
PERMIT NUMBER: 77-210
DATE OF INSPECTION FOR DATA IN REPORT: MAY 11, 1987
SUMMARY: During the past year the operation expanded about
5 acres as a result of mining on the west wall. Some
initial extraction work was performed on the extreme east
side of the operation as well as the normal extraction which
continued on the quarry floor. No land was actually placed
in reclamation, but the effect from the lowering of the west
wall, which is a form of reclamation, has begun to have its
impacts on the improvement of the visual aspects. The
visual berm has continued to produce excellent growths and
the trees on the berm are becoming quite sizable. Most of
the next year's activity will concentrate on the west wall
area. It is possible that another permit change will be
produced in the next year which will include a relocation of
the access road and inclusion of plans for the water system
to be installed at the quarry.
RULE 2.41 1 LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES AFFECTED DURING THAT YEAR.
The amount of land affected during this last year increased to an
amount greater than has ever been the case in the history of the
operation. This increase was due to approximately 5 acres of additional
area being affected in the Phase I area of the amendment. This area is
the west wall of the quarry which is in the process of being lowered in
accordance with the plan. Therefore, the area of affected land totals
approximately 35 acres.
Also of note during the last year was the completion of the access
road from the shop area to the south end of Phase I. This road was
needed in order to gain access to the south end of Phase I because
access from the north had been temporarily removed by the initiation of
mining in the Phase I area.
Initiation of the excavation of the extreme east end of the
operation (north of the entrance road to the quarry) was also begun, but
as of the date of this report, had not expanded very far. This area
will eventually become the new road route. By placing the road in this
area it will be possible to reduce the steep final grade before entering
the quarry. Completion of the road relocation may require a small
revision or amendment to the permit to include some land necessary to
the road route change.
Of course all of this activity was in addition to the normal
extraction work which occurs on the floor of the quarry. However, a
fair amount of this work has had to slow until such time as the west
wall is lowered one or two additional lifts.
Page 1 of 3 Permit 77-210 Snyder Quarry 1987 Annual Report
