Water was pumped from the indicated sump 24 hours/day until August 18 at
thF rate of 38 gpm. (ido pi:rnping occured during the week of June ~7 while
the mine was shut down for vacation). August 19th pumping was reduced to
8 hours/day due to a reduction in the sumF, level. Pio appreciable increase
in the sump level was noted with the reduction in pumping. For the period
May 23 to November 1 a total of 3,713,ODG gallons were pumped. This would
indicate an average inflow of less than 17gnm, as the reservoir level was
receeding. Suspended solids from the discharged water increased with the
continuation of mining in the immediate area of the sump, as would be
e:;pected.

The water level in well No. TPW-1 decreased 4.0 it. from 6/29 to 10/22.
This is Probably related to the er_tremely dry year in the area as well as
reclamation of the strip mines and clay pit on the Eastern outcrop of the
coal seam. As previously reported before e~~ensive pumping from the mine,
the recovery of the well after bailing is e~aremely slow. The bailer used
for sampling removes about 1 quart of water. The level in the well will
drop the calculated distance for a 1 quart volume in the 2 inch casing.
This test has not been conducted for a long enough period to accurately
define the recovery rate. It does not appear tl-,at the level in the well
can be correlated to the water pumped from the mine.
Samples for the water quality analysis of well no. TPW-1 were taken in
October. The results of the analysis is enclosed.
