activity and were prcojected for further activity during the uurertt permit term.
• Less ett~hasis was placed on surface water stations in Terror Creek and Coal GUlcir
where all mining activities had oea_~1 during 1986. In general, no adverse
impacts attributable to mining were evident at any of the monitored surface water
stations (refer to Table 5 arcs Map No. 4-1). Stations SS~1-5, Stevens Gulch, arcl
SW-6, Fast Roatcap Creek, exhibited normal flows and water quality parameters
consistent with previous years data. No evidence of subsidence impacts in these
drainages was apparent. Mining occurred in the Stevens Gulch drainage upstream
of site SW-5 during 1993 in Panel C. Panel C mining was designed and conducted
to prevent the development of subsidence in order to protect the waterway aryl
certain structures located in the vicinity. Data collected during 1993 indicates
these protective measures were successful. The remaining surface water
monitoring stations, with the exception of the Roatcap Creek sites Uf12C and LERC,
• are all located in areas outside of potential mining i~acts given mining
develo~t to date. Little monitoring was corriucted at these sites during 1993
other than to verify that water was still flowing and field parameters were
within normal ranges. The iJF32C and LERC sites continued to show an irregular
relationship between suspender] and dissolved solids concentrations above arcl
below the West mine facilities. TR-24 permanently and formally suspended further
monitoring efforts at eight of the thirteen surface water monitoring stations
monitored during 1993 and temporarily suspended further monitoring at an
additional two sites.
S~tFACE AATfR MfI~IIRCR.ING S17~TIQ~S - S'lD~iS, ARF7~ ~'FZRiS
'!he Orchard Valley Fast Mine fan level was defined as a small area exemption as
drainage from this area (refer to Map 8-lA) is not conveyed to a sediment pond.
• Three sample points were defined at this location and sampled for conformance
with the NPDFS discharge alternative limitations rsn ' ements associated with
16
