• quality analyses yielded results oafarable to previous collected data.
well SM-5 exhibited slightly improved water quality with »~+~~cteristically low
concentrations of alkalinity as Ca00r, bicarbonate as Ca00„ dissolved calcium,
sulfate, and total dissolved solids. Well SM-10 e~diibited higher than normal
concentrations of chloride, hardness as Cam, magnesium, sulfate, and total
dissolved solids. Well SM-11 exhibited slightly higher alkalinity, within one
t+a*,r9„r~ deviation of the established average. Rene minor fluctuations are
thought to be associated with the extremely wet spring occurring during 1993.
Additional monitoring will determine whether these minor changes in water quality
will be maintained or will revert back to normal ranges. 'These charges are not
believed to be mine related.
• S`PE9Fl~ GUNS OOISAVIUM MONiTC~RIIiG T~ET,i.S
Shallow groundwater monitoring wells SM-1, SM-2, SM-3, SM-8, and SM-9 (see Map
No. 4-1) are located in the Stevens c~lcli drainage. 'ihe wells are monitored for
water quality parameters, water levels, and field parameters to detect i~acts
associated with mining in the central pod. Wells SM-1, SM-2, SM-3, aryl SM-9 were
monitored approximately monthly during 1993 for water levels aryl field
parameters. Well SM-8 was monitored for only a brief period as it is located
outside the zone of any potential mine impacts given mining to date. No water
quality sample was obtained from well SM-8 as an extensive water quality database
exists for this site and no mining has occurred in the vicinity. Wells SM-2 and
SM-9 were sampled quarterly for water quality. Well SM-3 was sampled once for
water quality in the fall. Well SM-1 was not sampled for water quality due to
a disagreement with the landowner of this site which temporarily precluded aooess
to this property during the time samples were being collected. Well SM-1 is
7
