Initial spraying in the spring was performed by Moffat County Weed Control, with BTU
Empire supplying the treatment chemicals. Subsequent spring, fall, and spot-spraying
were completed by a contractor, and Mine Environrental Staff. Targeted weed species
included Russian knapweed, leafy spurge, Houndstongue, hoary cress (white-top),
Canadian thistle, and tamarisk. Selective herbicide applications utilized 2,4-D amine,
Banvel, Escort, triclopyr (tamarisk), and Activator 90. Spraying was conducted from
June 2005 through October 2005.
Contracts were issued for beaver control and restoration of an imgation ditch in the
southern portion of the mine property during late fall, however, inclement weather
prevented completion of the work during 2005 (to be completed during 2006). Three
lowland hay meadows (south of the stacking tube, north of the water treatment ponds,
and west of the railroad) were hayed during the year. BTU Empire is working with a
local-rancher-to-contract`-agricultural-cropping-activities--for--restoration of several
disturbed areas where low cover values and weed/rodent infestations are a concern. It is
anticipated that these activities will be initiated during 2006.
Attached is the Division's form required for the 2005 ARR. If there are questions, please
give me a call at your convenience.
Sincerely,
i~JGr
Brian A.
