• by the BLM and EPA. Also, a mine plan change was submitted/approved by the EPA,
BLM, and State DMG to drill and mine cavity #5. A ROW will be required for proposed
extension wells off the lease for horizontal well pads associated with cavities #1, 2, and
3. A cultural resource study was performed on proposed ROW area. Core Data from
cavity #4 wells and previous wells (Ex-1, Ex-2, PW-1, PW-2 and IRI-4) was submitted to
the BLM and the EPA. WRN requested the BLM allow a mining limit of 100 feet at the
lease boundary. This request will be evaluated with Mine Plan revision for high extraction
mining. In December, WRN started mining additional tons from cavity #1.
WRN submitted to the BLM and EPA a computer model study by the Colorado School
of Mines that indicated mapping cavities is impractical with existing methods. A report
was submitted to the BLM and EPA which evaluated the rise in salinity of the A-Groove
• water supply well. Undesirable event reports (9) for overflow of the process pond into the
waste pond and pipeline leaks were submitted to the BLM and DMG.
A request to reduce EX-2 water level monitoring frequency was approved by the BLM.
Late in 1995 a second pressure transducer was installed in EX-2 to provide continuous
water level data in the process control room. A request to utilize IRI-5 monitoring well as
the perched aquifer at the maxi pad was approved by the BLM and EPA. The EPA bond
was increased to cover wells associated with cavity #4. BLM's review of lease
modification for 520 acre window continued. Site inspections by the State APCD and
EPA were performed with compliance noted.
