1
Memorandum to Henry Barbe
September 27, 2000
Page 9
• The ground surface was composed primarily of clay and silt, with occasional sandstone
float and small outcrops.
' • Projected overburden depth along traverse to the B-seam ranges from 1,150 to 1,600 feet.
• Any subsidence effects during longwall mining will be easily observed on this road. All
other areas, which are covered with trees, brush and grass, would very likely hide these
effects.
' Note: From Location 12, apre-mining, ATV traverse was made above longwall panels 16, 17,
13A, and 13 in colluvium and soil composed predominantly of clay, sandy clay, and silt.
• Traverse first went up drill road on the south fork of Sylvester Gulch above longwall
panels 16 and part of 17 in overburden thickness to B-seam ranging from 1,150 to 1,200
feet, thence continued on a drill road eastward, thence southward across panel 17 in
overburden thickness ranging from 1,200 to 1,500 feet.
' • As observed on traverse from Location 11 to Location 12, areas other than the drill road
that are covered with grass, brush, and trees, will likely hide any mining subsidence
effects.
' • The third ATV traverse went from the intersection of the Dry Fork of Minnesota Creek
Road up the road to Location 7 at Apache Rocks. This traverse was above longwall
' panels 13A (1,500-3,000 feet west of east boundary) and 13 (3,000-4,000 feet west of the
east boundary). No subsidence-like features were observed on the road (the most likely
place to see them) in the traverse where overburden thickness to B-seam ranges from
' about 900 to 1,400 feet.
August 3t1-ATV and Foot Traverses Above Longwall Panels 12, 13, and 13A in
' the Dry Fork of Minnesota Creek Drainage
Location 13. Located in the approximate center of longwall panel 13, 2,500 feet east of the
west boundary. This point is also located at Location 9 of the subsidence
survey made during September 1998 in colluvium and soil consisting of silt
and clay.
• An ATV traverse was made on the main access drill road from Location 7 at Apache
Rocks to arrive at this point (1) above the east boundary of panel 12, (2) thence above the
' old 6-entry haulageway north of panel l2 (used to access mined-out longwall panels 1
NW to 7 NW), and (3) thence above mined-out panels 12 and 13 2,500 to 3,000 feet east
of their western boundaries.
' • Projected overburden thickness to B-seam ranges from about 1,100 to 1,400 feet.
Wright Water Engineers, Inc., 2490 W. 26'" Avenue, Ste. 100A, Denver, CO 80211
Tel. 303/480-1700; Fax. 3031480-1020, e-mail:krwrighl@wnghtwater.com
